At about a dollar each, 45 rpm singles didn't seem like such a bargain compared to albums, usually with 12 songs, but you always got a lot of songs you didn't care for.  As I recall, 45's were 98 cents retail and monaural albums $2.98, stereo albums $3.98.

I remember going to Woolworths in 1967 and buying a 45 rpm record for 88 cents.

I still have a 1970s stereo and the spindle ttachment for the 45s I still own - along with the 8-tracks tapes the stereo also plays...
