Just mentioned this to the wife the other day....at one time - when it was an occasional treat and before it became a staple of the American diet (I grew up in Fort Lee & Wayne, NJ) it was called Pizza PIE (in some neighborhood it was simply "A'beetz'...in fact there's an old (Golden Oldies) song by Norman Fox & the Rob Roys called "Pizza Pie"...here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-CCEtMYpZ4

Eh, it depends on where you're from... In California it was always pizza. If someone called it pizza pie, we knew the person wasn't local.

Today I would recommend 1) Grimaldi's in Brooklyn
(Dumbo Area) & 2) Pepe's in New Haven .

When I was a kid, all pizza was good !

And now you have to WINDOW SHOP to figure what kind you want. Somehow Pizza with salad or pinapple on it just isn't right! It was so much easier when the choice was regular or Sicillian!

Interesting how a the cost of a "slice" in NYC. Always matches the cost of a ride on the subway in NYC. Presently $2.50.
