In Los Angeles, it was on one of these stations: KHJ 9, KTTV 11 or KCOP 13. Back then, I agree, the animation looked cheap and cheesy. I watch some of the shows that're on now. They're well drawn, and use the current technology to do it with. As a 57-year-old man, I can rightly say that animation has improved vastly. I'm sentimental as can be, but the kids are now watching quality animation.

The same production company did a series before this one called "Scott McCloud, space angel" about the adventures of a futuristic astronaut and his pals, one called Taurus, who flew an old dilapidated rocket that he had to pump by hand from the pilot seat to presumably  get his fuel pressurised enough to ignite.  I agree on the animation, the only thing that seemed to move was the mouths.

I'd have to say that what appealed to me was its "weirdness".

There was nothing unique about this cartoon, the animation was awful & that is saying something when you consider the state of animation for TV in the 50's & 60's. The worst part was the human mouths imposed on the animated & unmoving faces... that was creepy & off-putting. They have numerous episodes of these on cheap collections from Mill Creek, not worth seeing but it will give you a giggle & chills.

I first saw these very bizzare tv cartoons weekday evenings
on WPIX TV Ch.11 in NYC back in 1958.

The last time that I saw "Clutch Cargo" was on "The Merry
Mailman's Funhouse!" on Ch.11 from 1961 to 1963.

It was the name that attracted us. Clutch Cargo - it sounds adventurous.

As a seven year old kid in 1958 I thought this was a pretty weird show. It was all still pictures and only the mouths moved. If you're interested, there are episodes on YouTube

I never saw this, but it's among the Top Ten items here at the BBeM, so many of you apparently did. What did you find compelling, innovative, or otherwise unique about it?
