As a kid I was always in motion. As a result my cousin Charlie Buck used to call me 'Sputnik.' Plus being part Slovak and Ukie...Sorta fit.

I saw Sputnik in early October 1957, or I thought I did. Here's an article that explains why I likely didn't:   I saw Sputnik!

The reason for the Government's anxiety was because Sputnik was in actuality a nuclear ballistic missle shell with a radio transmitter in it instead of the weaponry.
This showed us that Russion had the capability to send a nuclear weapon anywhere they wanted. Luckily the general public did not know this or there would have been massive panic.
