I lived in Washington, D.C. for a year, and saw the Apollo 11 command module, and I felt a genuine moon rock at the Smithsonian Air and Space museum.

I get emotional when I think of it ... and I still remember that horrible night in 1967 when my dad and I got home from bowling league to find mother crying in the kitchen because of the Apollo 1 fire. The fabulous scripture reading by the Apollo 8 crew with the entire Earth on the screen in '68 ... the actual landing in '69 ... and how about the lunar rover ? Wow those were the days ; young, full of hope and the promise of the future. Can't explain it to the younger crowd. What happened ?

When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon I had to listen to it on the radio because the picture tube in our tv had burned out! But I do remember every time there was a rocket launched during the school day there was one of the teachers at school who would have her class watch it on tv.
