although these films were released to theaters years before many of us were old enough to go to the theater, we got to know them win they were shown on TV.
Mister Roberts (1955)
with Henry Fonda, Jimmy Cagney, Ward Bond, William Powell, Jack Lemon, Tige Andrews, and James Flavin
directed by John Ford, Mervyn Leroy, and Joshua Logan
I was 10 at the time, and the neighborhood show would allow you to stay in your seat as the next group was coming in. I saw Mr. Roberts four times in one day, and my parents didn't even miss me. (Hmm, they may have been telling me something.) I recently bought the DVD and still enjoyed it, mainly because it brought back this childhood memory.
