My parents, I think, went to the Nevele and the Concord a few times, but the next time I recall visiting one of these resorts with them, it was Tamarack Lodge in 1964. My sister and I had tons of fun on the trampoline, and I met Abraham Hurwitz, Shari Lewis' father, who was a magician and the resort's evening entertainment for the week. He taught me a mnemonic code for remembering random words, and had me demonstrate it onstage, with audience members calling out words for me to remember. He also removed my undershirt while I was still wearing my suit, and cut my necktie in half, put it in a paper bag, popped the bag, and returned my tie unscathed.
