Despite the popularity of such shows as the Beverly Hillbillies, Sammy Jackson was told that there were too many "country bumpkins" on TV. The thing is the Will Stockdale character wasn't ignorant, naive, or stupid, like Gomer Pyle. Anyway, Sammy tried movies, other TV shows, and live theater before he wound up as a DJ on radio station KMPC (not a country station) in Los Angeles then moving to Las Vegas. He died in Las Vegas of a heart attack at age 57 in 1995.
I always wondered what happened to this show, and its star, Sammy Jackson.
