Mr. Wilson, the name of the billionaire inventor in "The Dick
Tracy" comic strips is "Diet Smith"..not "Vitamin Smith"..you're
confusing "Vitamin Flintheart The ham actor" with "Diet Smith".

The original newspaper comic strip headlining Dick, Tess Trieheart, Junior, Pat Patton, Vitamin Flintheart, Gravel Gertie, and B. O. Plenty...and a series of grotesque villains beginning with Jerome Trohs and Mama, Littleface Finney, Laffy,The Mole, B-B Eyes, Pruneface, Eighty-Eight Keyes, Mrs. Pruneface, The Brow, Flattop, Breathless Mahoney and Mumbles...was a true and unforgettable classic. However, once the inventor Vitamin Smith entered the strip with his new devices for Tracy to use, it began its long downward spiral.

I never really got into the comic strip, but I do recall watching the animated TV series, with characters like Joe Jitsu, Pruneface, Flattop, and Mumbles.
