In the past decade, containerized shipping really has taken off. When we were growing up we saw many box cars on freight trains. Now it's all containers and tankers. The containers make it impossible for hobos to hitch a ride on a train, although I see the railroad police finding stowaways at the tracks by my house quite often (where do they hide?)
