Belt-worn coin changers

Belt-worn coin changer

These were used by direct sales people like the Good Humor ice cream man, back when lots of things cost less than a dollar.

Standard equipment back when I was was a paperboy and later when I drove cab in Manitowoc, WI. Unlike cabs in New York, etc. where you have to "flag one down", you would call the Cab Company to send one (Uber's not a new concept). The cabs weren't metered so the fare was a set price based on zones. Picked up and dropped off anywhere in Zone 1 was 90ยข. Picked up Zone 1 and dropped off in Zone 2 (or vice-versa) was $1.20, etc..

Most parking meters still take coins; some only take coins. I usually carry $5 in quarters.

I hardly ever have a need for cash (even bills) these days, and never carry coins at all. How about you?
