Then there were the elusive (legendary?) 1943 copper pennies, only a few minted. If you found one you'd be "set for life..." -- or so an older kid told us --- "so keep looking!"
These were minted only in 1943. Coin divers at the Poughkeepsie NY landing of the Hudson River Day Line used to curse when they went into the water after these, thinking that they were dimes. Hey! Beggars can't be Choosers!
